Using cut bait as lures
The traditional use of cut bait is to just slap it on a hook and cast it out and wait...but what if that is NOT it? What if we were to tell you that bait can do so much more for you? I am here to tell you it can and it can be wise to do so.
After casting out your bait give it some time but instead of just reeling in try using the bait as a lure. This can trigger more aggressive fish in the area.
Techniques:
One of our favorite method to use cut baits as lures is to use a wounded fish method. Reel it in a few feet then pull on the line a few times and let is sit for just a few seconds then repeat. Another method is to drag the bait across the bottom and reel in the slack and rinse and repeat. It is a very simple method but it does work on some of the more aggressive fish.
Don't let your cut bait be a one trick pony, turn that cut bait into a lure when the fish aren't biting. It will give you a second weapon to use on your fishing trip to increase your chances of success.
