Looking to go out and catch some tunas or makos? If so you need to first get your shark/tuna permit. This permit covers an entire vessel and is not needed for each passenger. You will also have to pass a tuna and billfish identification test. You do not need this permit if you plan on going out on a charter as the charter should have all permits needed. Black Bass is being caught fairly well. Larger ones being caught via boat. There are still some being caught from the surf using live herring. If using a jig, make sure to use slow movements.
Effective today, NJ law now bans all smoking and vaping from all beaches. This is espected to have negative affects on surf fishing and sales at tackle shops. The modern Fish act of 2017 was signed by President Trump. This act is very critical to all anglers. The primary part of this act is that it finally seperates Anglers and Commercial Anglers. In the past laws that applied to Commercial also applied to the local angler and vice versa. This made laws on Commercial fisheries loose but strict on Anglers. Finally the laws can be placed as it should on each individually. Other important aspects of the law is as follow:
