NJ Night Fishing
Fishing NJ waters at night can be fun and relaxing. The sound of the waves crashing down, the cool brisk air, the peace of no one else being around. All of that is free...minus the cost of a bunker or two and a few sinkers.
Night time is when the Apex Predators come out to play, so grab your hooks, lines and sinkers and get casting.
Tips: This first tip is where making your own rigs comes in handy. You can buy glow in the dark fishing beads to place on your rigs. They only slightly glow so it sparks their interest. You can buy these from eBay for dirt cheap and will often take a few weeks to ship so plan according.
The next tip is to use old bunker or mackerel. You want nice and oily and stinky to help the fish find it.
Remember that Apex Predators have nice size teeth so a steel leader is a must. If you are unsure of what size leader to use, simply consult your tackle shop, these guys can guide you better than anyone when it comes to what kinds of sharks or fish are currently biting, and for a sale they will give you unlimited tips and guidance, so tap into that experience and support your local shop at the same time.
Glow sticks are a great way to keep a eye on your pole at nite and keep your hands free. Most Tackle shops sells mini glow sticks that you attach to the tip of your rod, when the glow stick starts to bounce you got a bite....and when the glow stick runs down the beach or towards the ocean then you got yourself a monster shark.
Are you hearing Bells? Then maybe you have a bite! An alternative to the glow sticks is a mini bell you place on the tip of your rod. Once again often sold at local tackle shops.
Location: Is there a best spot to fish in NJ? We don’t like to believe so! I think I’ve literally caught every fish species in NJ from every beach in NJ. Instead of picking a top fishing spot to catch fish, we always recommend fishing spots either close to you or of a spot that you just love for any reason. You are far more likely to enjoy yourself if you love where you are. When in doubt we hit LBI state park. You have to be an angler to even get past the gate (yes they do a pole check) it’s relaxing there, no life guards or swimmers or shellers EVER, just you, the ocean and fellow anglers....what could be better?
Last but certainly not least, don’t forget your chair. That way you can fall asleep and either wake up to no bait (fishing on credit) or a fish that is so exhausted he’s cursing you out. After all, a great benifiet of night fishing is just relaxing and maybe catching a couple of ZZZ and just loving life! Good Luck and happy fishing!!!!!
